When it comes to choosing your career, finding your first job or looking for a new opportunity, it’s beneficial to have an understanding of the average UK salaries in your field and therefore your earning potential.
Firstly, you’ll want to understand your value to businesses and have an idea of what you can expect to be bringing in each month. Also, employers will likely ask you what your salary expectations are and you won’t want them to think that you lack commercial awareness by coming out with a random and unrealistic figure.

An entry-level Accountant with less than 1-year experience can expect to earn an average total compensation (that includes salary, bonus and profit share) of £21,485. This increases to £25,832 in your first 1-4 years, £30,778 around 5-9 years and £35,639 above that.
For Accountant roles in Belfast and London, you can expect to earn 16% and 15% respectively more than the overall UK average.
The national average salary for an Office Administrator is £18,262 per annum (up from £17,459 in 2019). The salary does not increase much with experience, with the most experienced administrators earning no more than £20,000.
If you can progress to Office Manager you will see an increase in salary with the average being £25,118. With profit share and bonuses Office Managers can earn anywhere between £18,000 – £35,000.
If you’re just getting started in your marketing career, a Marketing Coordinator can expect an average salary of £22,435. As you move up to become a Marketing Executive, the average salary increases to £23,801.
Marketing Managers see a reasonable jump in salary to an average of £33,345. With the addition of commission or profit share, Marketing Manager can take home between £24,000 – £52,000 a year.
Buyers can expect to earn an average salary of £27,169 with £30,000 being the top end of the salary spectrum. Purchasing Managers can expect to earn a little more with the average salary being £33,770. Plus, Purchasing Managers are reported to earn a profit share of up to £7,000 on top of their salary.
Salespeople earn an average of £21,426 a year, however, with a few years experience, this can quickly increase. The other benefit of working in sales is that you can earn substantial bonuses and commission on top of the highest salaries. PayScale reports that UK salespeople earn anywhere between £3,000 – £23,000 a year in commission.
If you climb the sales career ladder to a Sales Director position, you’ll be looking at a generous salary average of around £63,243. Sales Director salaries are reported to go as high as £98,000 plus commission of up to £43,000!
As a Warehouse Manager, the average annual income in the UK for 2020 is £25,705 with salaries reported between £19,000 – £37,000.
